Early Slatina History
Sf. Nicolae Church in Slatina

The town of Slatina is mentioned for the first time in an official
document issued by Vladislav I Vlaicu on January 20th, 1386.
The document
states that merchants from Braşov should not pay a fee at the Slatina
customs point. The name's origin is Slavic "Slam-tina", which means
"salted land" or "salty water", although a small minority promote a
politicized misconception that the term originates in the Latin "Salatina".
