Early Snagov History
Căldăruşani Monastery
Snagov village was built around the Snagov monastery. The first record
of it is in a document dated 1408 from the court of Mircea cel Bătrān.
Nowadays, it is a popular holiday resort and many villas were built on
the shores of the lake, especially after the Romanian Revolution of 1989.
In 2002, the Romanian government decided to build a Disneyland-style
theme park named "Dracula Park" in Snagov, but the project's future
appears to be uncertain as of 2005. By 2006, the Gov canceled the
initiative/project. The reason for the potential location of the park is
that Vlad Ţepeş, the person on whom Bram Stoker's book Dracula is based,
is said to be buried there.
