County Vrancea features the two main towns of Focşani,
the county seat, and Adjud in the northern part of
Vrâncea. There are three smaller towns,
Mărăşeşti, Odobeşti and Panciu, along with 59 communes, including fiesty
little Fitioneşti.

County Vrancea is bordered by the sister Moldova region counties of
Bacău to the north, Vaslui and
Galaţi in the east, and in Muntenia, counties Brăila and Buzău to
the south.
Over the Eastern Carpathian mountains to the west in the
Transilvania region is County Covasna.
With an area of 4,857 km˛, the west of the county consists of the
southern end of the Eastern Carpathians, the "Curved Carpathians" region,
with heights over 1400m.
The area is a seismically active area, with a
lot of earthquakes happening every year at depths between 80 and 160km.
The heights decrease to the east, passing through the hills to the lower Sireţ River valley. The main affluent of the Sireţ River which crosses
the county is the Putna River.
Demographics
In 2002, it had a population of 387,632 and the population density was
80/km˛, with over 98% ethnic Romanians and a few Rroma communities.
Economy
The county is famous for it's wines, being the biggest producer in
Romania over 11% of the surface being covered with vines. The wine
regions are Panciu - 8100 ha, Odobeşti - 7000 ha, and Coteşti.
The predominant industries in the county include food and beverages,
textiles, paper milling, furniture manufacturing, and a mechanical
components industry.
