Ecology and Tourism in Romania
Besides the natural geological wonders, eco-tourism in Romania is
supercharged by the sheer biodiversity of the country, with 3600 species
of Gymnosperm and Angiosperm amongst the wide palette of 33,802 species
of Romanian flora, representing 40% of all European flora.
The entire territory of the country also presents an interest from
the point of view of ethnographic and folklore heritage, each rural zone
having its own traditional customs.
That is why the action of attracting Romanian villages that dispose
of tourism and cultural/spiritual potential in the internal and foreign
tourism networks, is an ongoing process in many key counties in Romania.
NGOs dealing with eco-tourism include the National Agency for Rural
Ecological and Cultural Tourism (NARECT), and the Romanian Federation
for Mountain and Rural Development.
There are over 4000 pensions and nearly 2000 farmstays in Romania,
most of which are in the National Agency for Rural Ecological and
Cultural Tourism (NARECT) network.
