Dâmboviţa is surrounded by the fellow Muntenia
region counties of Prahova and Ilfov (Bucharest) in the east, Argeş County
in the west, and both Teleorman County and Giurgiu County in the South.
The border with Transilvania and Braşov county is
to the north.
This county has a total area of 4, 054 km˛, over three main forms of
relief. In the North there are the mountains from the Southern
Carpathians group - the Bucegi Mountains and the Leaotă Mountains. In the
center there are the sub-carpathian hills and the South area is part of
the Romanian Plain.
The main river gives the county it's name, the Dâmboviţa River. Also
the Ialomiţa River flows in the North and East side. In the South the
Argeş River flows.
Demographics
In 2002, it had a population of 541, 763 and the population density
was 134/km˛. It is one of the most densely populated counties in
Romania. The majority of the population - 96% are Romanians and the
biggest minority are the Rromas (Gypsies).
Economy
In Târgovişte there is one of the biggest factory of steel in
Romania. Also oil is extracted and refined. The predominant industries in
the county are Metalurgical industry, Oil extraction equipment, Food
industry, Home appliances, Textile industry, Chemical industry, and
Construction materials.
